For a continuous supply of ferny leaves, plant dill every 3-5 weeks.  After 3-4 weeks, dill will flower and produce seeds.  The flowers are edible, and are also attractive to a variety of beneficial insects.  The flowers are great to use when making pickles, or let them mature and save the seeds.  If you leave them alone, they will drop seeds and grow new plants on their own.
