Perhaps the most famous and well known of all heirlooms, Brandywine dates back as early as 1885. It's sweetness and complexity of flavor have set the standard for what we've come to expect from an heirloom tomato. They do take quite a white to ripen, and they don't produce a huge number of fruits, but the giant, pleated, velvety sweet fruit they do mature are well worth the wait.
