It’s not an heirloom and it doesn’t have a sexy name, but BHN 589 is a commercial red tomato that has been bred specifically for flavor. While it might not beat my favorite heirlooms in a taste test, BHN 589 is a satisfying and reliable red tomato with classic tomato flavor and high yield potential. Fruit are firm and resist cracking. Disease resistant plants are large for a determinate tomato reaching around five feet.
